Photographers and models will have their opportunity to take the photos they want in the good company of their fellow cosplayers without the crowds and hardships of trying to make a cosplay last through a convention day.

At the Life University Photoshoot, there will be staff photographers on site to capture cosplayers in their glory against a variety of backgrounds. The fall leaves should be at their peak. Backgrounds around the photoshoot site on Life University Campus include bridges, a creek, a pond, an old village with a mill, stone walls and stone benches, and a small waterfall.

This is a must go to for anyone who is a fan of eSports and wants to see a live production in person. Hi-Rez has extended MomoCon attendees a 25% off coupon using the code: MOMOSMITE which can be used at the following URL: http://bit.ly/1uMGVgV

State of the Geek Forge

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy geeksmiths, both with Geek Forge-related things and our day jobs.  But we’re back and recovered from vacation, and we’re ready to look at all the fun things coming up!  In our previous post, we mentioned our upcoming convention schedule.  As you can see, we’ll be starting 2015 off right!  But until then, we have some other fun things –

Our Store

We started our Etsy store a few years ago to handle the surplus of fun crafts we do, and get a little extra money for our cosplay costs.  We’re excited to announce we’ve added a few new types of items, with more to come!  So far, we’ve added men’s cufflinks and clip-on earrings, and there’s more to come! If there’s anything you’d like to see us make, let us know!

New Projects

We’ve been working to branch into even more geeky goodness, including video tutorials!  Since we’re learning how to do it ourselves, the process is a little slow-going.  We want to give y’all the best information we possibly can!

Old Projects

We still plan to do interviews, cover conventions, and show you all our behind-the-scenes things.

So thanks for sticking with us, and we promise there will be tons of more fun to come!  You can keep up with us over at our Facebook page, Google+ or Instagram.

Our 2015 convention schedule!

It’s barely November, but we’re already excited about 2015! Check out our convention schedule:

We’re planning to attend these conventions in some sort of capacity, either as vendors, attendees, press or even guests!  As the conventions get closer, we’ll have more details for you!  And we’re excited about MomoCon’s Cosplay on Ice coming up, so keep an eye out for those costumes, coming soon!

Official Charity Atlanta Community Food Bank Receives more than $115,000 and over 500 Pounds Food Items; Record Participation in Blood Drive Supports Critical Need

10380058_10100387062475946_8628560898447400499_oATLANTA – October 3, 2014 – More than 62,000 fans, coming from every state in the nation and a few foreign countries, participated in the 28th annual Dragon Con, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi and gaming convention, setting a new attendance record.

The convention raised over $115,000 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, collected 535 pounds of food which will provide 445 meals for the food bank, and set a new record in its blood drive efforts.

Patrick Yapjoco was crowned the winner of the 2nd annual TCGplayer.com Realms Open Championship, taking home the top prize of $4,000. In all, a field including some of the nation’ top Heroclix minatures players competed for a total purse of $15,000. HeroClix is a competitive, table top game using miniature super heroes and villains from throughout pop culture.

For 2015, Dragon Con will be held over the four-day Labor Day weekend, September 4-7, 2015. The convention footprint will remain relatively the same, operating from its five host hotels – Hyatt Regency, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Sheraton Atlanta and Westin Peachtree – with the vendor area moving to Building 2 of the AmericasMart.

“This was a tremendous year,” said convention co-chair Rachel Reeves. “We had fans come from across the United States and even around the world to enjoy some Southern hospitality, Dragon Con style. I am confident that we showed them a very good time, and they’ll come back for more.”

The Dragon Con parade, always a highlight of the Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, attracted an estimated 75,000 attendees, who lined the streets to watch 3200 parade participants and celebrities, including actor Ralph Macchio, Dragon Con Guest of Honor and author Harry Turtledove, and the Power Rangers Samurai.

Dragon Con’s annual Robert A. Heinlein “Pay It Forward” blood drive attracted a record turnout, with 3,893 attendees registering to donate more than 3,292 units of blood and blood products this. The annual drive – consistently ranked as the largest convention-based blood drive – benefits LifeSouth, which serves more than 40 hospital in the Atlanta area and 110 hospitals in the Southeast.

In its fundraising efforts, Dragon Con raised $115,000 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the official convention charity for 2014. According to the Food Bank, every $1 raised in donations will provide four meals to food pantry clients across the Atlanta metro area.

Dragon Con selects a different Georgia-based non-profit each year, raising money through auctions, fan track activities and other events, including partnerships with the Atlanta Braves and Hard Rock Café, as well as a dollar-for-dollar Dragon Con match of up to $50,000. Since 2005, Dragon Con has raised more than $426,000 for its official charities.

In addition, Dragon Con and its members contributed nearly 900 hours of community service in the months leading up Dragon Con. Projects included packing and sorting food items for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, maintaining trails at Sweetwater Creek State Park, and working the Walk to End Lupus Now. In all, about 160 Dragon Con fans and their family members worked on the three projects.

Craft Room Makeover!

Now that convention season has died down for us a little, we have some time to do some work around the house.  One project we’ve been working on off-and-on since last year is the craft room.  Usually, our crafting projects will take up the dining room table and any other available surfaces.  We’re trying to minimize that, and keep things contained to one room.  You can follow our progress on our Facebook album for the most up-to-date pictures, or you can check out what we’ve done so far below!

This is the ultimate closet cosplay (where you make a costume out of what you already have in your closet), and a great jumping in point for inexpensive costuming! So here’s our challenge to you – build your own costume from things you already have if you were to start fighting crime (or causing it!) today. There’s no wrong way to do it!

Submit your pictures between now and 9/18/14, and we’ll put together a photo album of our favorite people – you!  And if you end up submitting an audition, let us know!  Maybe we’ll see you there!
